Storyline

When obscenely rich hedge-fund manager James (Will Ferrell) is convicted of fraud and sentenced to a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him one month to get his affairs in order. Knowing that he won't survive more than a few minutes in prison on his own, James desperately turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart), a black businessman who's never even had a parking ticket, for help.

Opinion

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart teamed up together for what seems to be the worst comedy of the year. So far. When watching a Ferrell film I expect it to be dumb, but also funny. Unfortunately, Get Hard is just dumb, it tries too hard to be funny with overdone racial, and sexual humour, and it is painful to watch --I didn't have one laugh throughout the entire film.

Writers probably think we are dumb, that is the only way to explain such an awful, an unoriginal, and predictable script. Apparently there is no point in writing a plot or good jokes when you can easier talk about how much anal rape goes on in prison. Yeah, just in case you didn't know, there is a lot of rape in prison. As if the film wasn't unfunny enough, the writers decided to gift us with a scene where Ferrell's character is learning how - or attempts - to give a blow job to a random guy, all encouraged by Hart's character. Please tell me how is that - and showing genitals - supposed to be funny, considering that both men look uncomfortable? Also, we are blessed with racial stereotypes.

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart have a quite good chemistry, but that's it. They play the racial stereotypes for the entire film and they are not funny at all. I was really expecting an extremely funny film from those two combined together. And is that John Mayer that famous? Because, like Craig T. Nelson's character, I have no idea who he is.
