Plot
The film is inspired by the true story of the 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, told by Richard Phillips in "A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea".
Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks) takes command of the Maersk Alabama, a unarmed container ship from the Port of Salalah (Oman), with orders to sail through the Gulf of Aden to Mombasa (Kenya).
In high seas, his ship is attacked by an armed crew of Somali pirates, Phillips is kidnapped and Abduwali Muse (Barkhad Abdi) asks for a  ransom of 10 millions dollars.

Opinion
Great film directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93), with the excellent screenplay by Billy Ray (Breach) and a brilliant Tom Hanks. Somali 'actors' have done a great job (credits to Greengrass). Keeping in Somali dialogue between the pirates makes the film more realistic. There are some small differences between the true story and the film but nothing important.

Quotes
Captain Phillips: There's got to be something other than being a fisherman or kidnapping people.
Muse: Maybe in America, Irish, maybe in America.
