Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks, a weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves where each Thursday we, the people participating, have to pick three films that fit the week's theme.
I guess it's because Christmas is just around the corner, but this week is all about toys. Those tangible things kids used to play with before they had smartphones. I, like most girls, liked Barbie, but Lego were definitely my favourites. I have so many good memories of my brother and I building random stuff at times, following the instructions other times, and making weird people. Enough with the memory lane, here's my three picks:
Toy Story (1995)
Cowboy doll Woody has a perfect life, but then one day Buzz Lightyear arrives and becomes his owner's new favourite toy. Woody is jealous and does something terrible. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best animated films ever made. The plot? Absolutely brilliant. The characters? Love them all. It does, however, partially fit the theme because Woody and Buzz weren't real toys before. But everyone else is.
The Lego Movie (2014)
Emmet is an ordinary construction worker that sees his life turned upside down when he is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant. Honestly, I didn't even want to spent money on it, but my brother convinced me to watch it in the movie theater. I still can't believe how wrong I was. This film is fantastic. Entertaining from start to finish. Basically everything is awesome!
Transformers (2007)
Teenager/loser Sam Witwicky buys his first car, but it isn't an actual car, but an alien robot, and soon finds himself in the middle of a war between two Cybertronian races. Never played with transformers, still I can recognize a good movie when I see one, and this one is quite good and entertaining. It's still a Michael Bay film though. But it's better than the others.
I also went with Transformers and Lego Movie. I think I liked Lego Movie more than my kid did.
ReplyDeleteI know I loved The Lego Movie 1000x more than my kids.
DeleteI think adults in general loved The Lego Movie more than kids.
DeleteI'll see a pattern emerge :)
ReplyDeleteLove Lego but not a fan of Transformers. Ah Toy Story back in 1995 we all wanted a Buzz toy or Woody toy. But I really wanted Bullseye from the sequel....never got him.
I wanted Mr. and Mrs. Potato and never got them.
DeleteGreat picks! Toy Story is definitely one of my favorite movies. :)
ReplyDeleteI picked Toy Story as well. It seems Toy Story and The Lego movie are the winners with transformers close behind. Transformers is ok even though it is not my thing. I have not had a desire to see the Lego movie but now what you wrote, I am beginning to thaw
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a bigger brother, I guess that's why I liked Transformers. Actually, if it wasn't for him, I'd never watch the film in the first place.
