Opinion

What I loved about Bride of Chucky was that it doesn't take itself seriously, not even for a second. That's pretty much what Don Mancini did in Seed of Chucky but it lacks the freshness of the previous film.

It also has a huge problem on the originality front since the plot is very similar to that of Wes Craven's New Nightmare. The actors playing themselves and getting haunted by the evil characters in the movie they played, this is too much already-seen.

Then there are the characters. Jennifer Tilly's Tifanny made for a great addition to Chucky's story, allowing the movie to transition from horror to comedy. She was the star of that movie, as one would expect from the title. The problem in this one is that she still is the star, the one that overshadows everything else, and I feel like this movie was supposed to be more about Chucky and Jennifer Tilly. As if that wasn't enough, Chucky and Tiffany's son Glen - who I at first thought was gay, but apparently he is a she and her name is Glenda - doesn't add anything to the franchise. Sure, without him/her, Chucky and Tiffany would have never come back from the dead, but at this point, given the stupidity the writing has reached, they could have come up with a more imaginative, even if impossible, way to bring them back.

The fans of slashers will be more than pleased to know that there's plenty of gory scenes. Although they are never scary. Actually, they are intended to be fun, as suggested by the way they are filmed, but they aren't that effective, probably because this has already been done before in Bride of Chucky.

I have to admit though that between a WTF moment and another - Chucky masturbating, just to mention one -, I had a little fun watching this.
