A weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves |
9 days of quarantine and my brother has already lost it. He's growing a moustache now. Or maybe he's trying to copy the look of someone from Narcos: Mexico since he's catching up on the series (by the way, I haven't seen the series yet but I assume there's plenty of people with horrific moustaches in it). Maybe he just wants to look like a bad guy without actually being one — for the latter, he could simply go for a ride with his bike and break the law. Why am I bringing this up? Because the theme for this week's Thursday Movie Picks is bad boys and I'd really feel like I'm not fulfilling my life as a sister if I didn't share this embarrassing thing about him since it fits the theme. But enough with the rambling, here are my picks.
This isolation is hard on everyone, but all we can do is take one day at a time. I enjoyed your choices for this week's theme. Brad Pitt is looking better now than he has in years.
ReplyDeleteMy entry @ The Doglady's Den
I know right! I drooled all over the place because of that shirtless rooftop scene in OUAIH
DeleteI love Fight Club and need to rewatch Heathers. it's been so long since I've seen it. I hated Rebel though lol. I had that on my first Blind Spot list.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! How is it even possible to hate that movie?!
DeleteSorry you're still stuck in quarantine! I'm there myself now for the last six days, it's tough though fortunately we were well stocked beforehand and have some property around our house to move around freely and not be near anyone else so at least we can get some fresh air when needed.
ReplyDeleteGood choices. I haven't seen Heathers in what feels like forever but I recall it being a big breakthrough for Slater. He's not an actor that can do everything but within his specific type, which this very much is, he makes an impression.
Rebel Without a Cause isn't something I watch very often unlike Dean's other two films as the headliner but it's a decent film. I've never seen his character Jim as much of a rebel really, just a nice kid going through normal adjustment issues who manages to find himself in under his head.
Brad Pitt in Fight Club on the other hand is trouble. I have little affection for the film nor do I understand its slavish fan base but Brad is very effective in it.
So many bad boys to choose from! I took a shortcut and made a mini theme.
Bad Boy (1935)-Pool shark Eddie Nolan (James Dunn) would like nothing better than to spend his time shaking down suckers and shooting the breeze with the other sharks. But he loves Sally Larkin (Dorothy Wilson) whose parents think him a bad boy wastrel and refuse until he has a reputable job. Eddie tries the straight and narrow but is unable to find a place. Driven to despair he contemplates whether he has anything to live for. Fast paced programmer, under an hour, definitely foreshadows Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Bad Boy (1949)-Bad boy delinquent Danny (Audie Murphy) has a raft of charges against him but the judge decides to give him one more chance and sends to the reform school Variety Ranch run by caring Marshall & Maud Brown (Lloyd Nolan & Jane Wyatt) to see if he is capable of redemption. With an enormous chip on his shoulder tough nut Danny may prove to be more than even the Browns can handle.
Bad Boys (1983)-Bad boy delinquent Mick O'Brien (Sean Penn) is sent to juvenile hall after accidentally killing rival gang leader, Paco Moreno’s (Esai Morales) young brother when a con he’s running goes wrong. In the brutal prison Mick finds himself instant adversaries with the vicious Viking (Clancy Brown) and Tweety (Robert Lee Rush). While Mick fights for survival inside Paco plans to take revenge on those close to Mick, including his girlfriend J.C. (Ally Sheedy).
I loved Fight Club when I watched it. But I haven't seen it in years so my opinion could have changed.
DeleteGreat picks and Jason Dean is cool as fuck as is Tyler Durden.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI've seen all the movies and like them.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that they could never make a movie like Heathers now...and then they made a TV series out if it but I think it kind of flopped.
I didn't know they made a Heathers series. I guess it's because it flopped.
DeleteHahahaaa....your brother and his moustache, I can just picture it. I bet some people are going squirrly with the isolation and social distancing but, once this is over, we will be more appreciative(I hope) for what we were missing. I have not seen Heathers but Rebel is a good fit and is popular this week. I was wondering when The Fight Club would appear and a great pick.
ReplyDeleteYou can't even imagine. Some people are losing it haha
DeleteOooooh *excellent* choices! I think the only acceptable mustache in any of Narcos would be Pedro Pascal's :D
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Anything is acceptable on him ;)
DeleteAh, we match with Durden. Such a great pick!
ReplyDeleteI know right!
