2020 Blind Spot Series: The Artist (2011)

Although I didn't follow award season nearly as much as I do now, waking up on February 26, 2012, to the news of The Artist winning Best Picture — along with Best Director and Best Actor — was a shock to me. I just couldn't believe they awarded a black-and-white silent film and I never even bothered watching it. Since I'm no longer the shallow 18-year-old I was then and I'm a bit obsessed with watching Best Picture winners and nominees, I figured I'd pick it as my Blind Spot for the month of February.

Thursday Movie Picks: Television Edition: Romance

A weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves

Thank god this is the last week of February because I've had more than enough of these love-related themes. I guess it's the future spinster in me that's saying that. Anyways, as always, the last week of the month we pick TV series and, without further ado, here are my three picks + a special mention for the week.

Thursday Movie Picks: Love in the Tech Age

A weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves

Had the Titanic disaster happened a century later, in 2012 instead of 1912, Jack and Rose would never have been a thing. They would have been way too focused on their smartphones to notice each other. They would have probably found each other on Twitter, while live-tweeting the disaster, and at that point it would have been too late for their ill-fated love. Or maybe they would have found each other earlier on Instagram, while searching the Titanic hashtag. Which would have made this week's Thursday Movie Picks theme, love in the tech age, a lot easier cause boy did I struggle to find three films.

Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)

Truth be told, I did not like the Birds of Prey trailers. For me, the film looked too much like a Suicide Squad sequel rather than a film on its own, it gave me the impression that it would have been a one-woman show — Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn — and that it would be just another mediocre addition to the DC Extended Universe. And I would have skipped it — which I guess was WB's not so secret agenda considering the poor marketing — if it wasn't for bloggers I follow who adored it and, especially, men who desperately want the film to fail. To my delight, the only problem I had with Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn was the title because, yes, it is almost a one-woman show as I feared, but what a fantabulous show it was.

Thursday Movie Picks: Meet Cute

A weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves

Hate it or love it, it's Valentine's Day tomorrow and my only way of celebrating it — mainly because I'm single but also because I'm not a fan of this commercial festivity — is to join the Thursday Movie Picks series as this week we are asked to pick three to five of those movies in which couples meet in cute ways.

Thursday Movie Picks: Deadly Sins Edition: Lust

A weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves

February is kicking off the new, exciting deadly sins edition and since this is the month of love, lust is the first sin we are talking about. I can't help but think how easily this would have been if they made movies about our lives — and by ours, I mean mine and some others' in the blogosphere — but there aren't so actual movies will have to do.

Monthly Recap: January 2020

One down, eleven to go. Okay, maybe that's not exactly the right attitude to tackle 2020 but I really didn't know how to start this post. So there's that. And the fact that I completely forgot to write this ahead so I'm doing it at seven am in the morning. On a Saturday. And I already had breakfast. It's very sad, I know.
