It's Thursday which means it's time for another episode of
Thursday Movie Picks, a weekly
series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves where you share three movies to fit the theme of the week each Thursday.
This week's theme is... Post-Apocalyptic World. Although I am not the biggest fan of this topic, it wasn't hard to find three titles, three great films for the record. Here they are:
The Rover (2014)
David Michôd's second feature, this Australian drama follows a cold-blooded drifter pursuing the men who stole his only possession, his car. Raw, slow and violent, the film captures the audience's attention till the end thanks to its two leads strong performances: a strong one from Guy Pearce, and a surprisingly excellent one from Robert Pattinson.
Snowpiercer (2013)
In a future where a climate-change experiment has killed all life of planet, the world's "lucky" survivors are on a train hurtling around the globe where a class system emerges. Very smart, thrilling and entertaining, it is the proof that a sci-fi film can also be reflective. It also had a terrific and barely recognizable Tilda Swinton. And Chris Evans to feast your eyes on, just in case the ugly post-apocalyptic scenario isn't your cup of tea.
WALL·E (2008)
This cinematic gem follows the story of WALL·E, a garbage collecting robot left on Earth to clean up the mess made by mankind. After hundreds of lonely years, he will discover a new purpose in life when he meets a search robot named EVE. The film will conquer children's heart with the cute characters and funny gags, and will make the adult think with his bitter social commentary about environmentalism, obesity and commercialism.
Why such a surprise to know Pattinson can act? He has shown himself to be far more than Twilight in a number of roles.
ReplyDeleteBut he has never shown before to be that good.
DeleteI haven't seen The Rover but I LOVE Snowpiercer and WALL-E. Great choices there. Now I'm annoyed I didn't think of WALL-E myself. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! WALL-E made my list too, I just had to include it :) Snowpiercer is such a great movie!
ReplyDelete- Allie
Thanks!! WALL-E made into a lot of lists yesterday
DeleteSurprised this is the first mention of Snowpiercer I've seen. Such a solid flick. I like, not love Wall-E, and it fits so perfectly, here. Haven't seen The Rover, but now I feel like I must since you had the nerve to put Robert Pattinson and the word 'excellent' in the same sentence.
ReplyDeleteHaha I kinda felt bad for writing that but it's the truth!
DeleteGreat picks!! I've not seen The Rover but wanted to. I enjoyed Snowpiercer, the original graphic novel its based on it far more grim too. Love Wall-E :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I haven't read Snowpiercer's graphic novel but I really want to
DeleteGreat picks here! Snowpiercer is such an inspired choice. Wish I had thought of that one!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteI have no seen any of these which i must rectify. I have seen only parts of Wall-E but laughed when I saw the fat humans which is not that far off base.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's quite sad.
DeleteI haven't actually seen any of these, obviously heard great things about Wall-E. Snowpeicer has been on my list for a while but I don't remembe it ever getting a UK realse.
ReplyDeleteThat's a real shame. Everyone should have the chance to see Snowpiercer
DeleteRover is new to me but I like Guy Pearce so I'll have to check it out. I'm not an animation fan so aside from catching glimpses passing through the room when my niece was watching Wall-E I haven't seen it. I hated Snowpiecer but it is an excellent choice for the theme.
ReplyDeleteYou won't regret watching The Rover
DeleteSnowpiercer is the only one I've seen but I didn't love it. I've had the Wall-E bluray forever and I still haven't seen it. I'm curious about The Rover, I did love his previous movie Animal Kingdom.
