Opinion

Although I was excited about an action comedy with a female leading duo, my expectations for "Hot Pursuit" were rather low. Watching the film not only was a confirmation of that, it also showed me how unfunny and offensive a movie can be.

I have no idea what the writers were thinking when they wrote this, but the script is truly awful. The plot is very basic and paper thin, filled with clichés of the genre and so predictable I don't even know how I managed to sit through the entire thing. The characters are one-dimensional and as unlikeable and annoying as they could possibly be.

But that's not even the worst part, that role is reserved to comedy. The gags are cheap and have been done over and over again in like a million of other movies; the jokes - I actually doubt they can be called so - not only are unfunny and feel forced but they are rather offensive as well. Whether they are stereotypical Hispanic jokes, very offensive to Latin women, or short people jokes - those really bothered me being Reese Witherspoon's height myself -, it's the kind of jokes one would expect from an Adam Sandler movie.

And I'm not done yet. In addition to that - and the dreadful dialogue -, "Hot Pursuit" also manages to set back women 50, if not more, years. Is this what feminists have been fighting for? I don't think so.

And the most upsetting this is that this film was directed by a woman. And that two well-known actresses, Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara, agreed to be part of this mess. To be honest, they kind of tried to save the film, but there's really nothing they could do.

  1. I could have told you to stay away from this piece of crap. I actually rented this piece of slop thinking it would be mindless but fun...was I wrong! My first hint should have been the overshopped picture of Vergera on the DVD. Anyway, I agree with everything you said here
