In 1988, following his mother's death, a young Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is abducted by the Ravagers, a group of space pirates led by Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker).
Twenty-six years later on the planet Morag, Quill steals an orb, and discovers that Ronan (Lee Pace) is determined to have it to destroy the planet Xandar.
To foil Ronan's plan, Peter joins forces with a team of wanted: the assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) sent by Ronan in the first place, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), his friend Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax (Dave Bautista).

I had great expectations for the film, and they really paid off. Guardians of the Galaxy is the best Marvel film to date. The film is a really good sci-fi, action packed, colorful, emotional, humorous and with outstanding characters - Groot may look grumpy, but I assure you he is the best and sweetest character.
The film doesn't take itself very seriously, in fact it has lots of laughs, and amusing dialogue. The writing is perfect. The scenography is spectacular and visual effects are spot-on. The prologue is very emotional. The soundtrack plays a major role in the film, and it fits in my top 5 film soundtracks.
Groot's motion capture and dubbing are amazing, and despite the limited vocabulary, he perfectly delivers all his emotions. Also Rocket's character is perfectly made.
Chris Pratt gives a great, charming and occasionally funny performance, and his Peter Quill recalls a bit Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man. Zoe Saldana is excellent as Gomora. Dave Bautista is great as Drax.

Rocket: No, Groot... don't do this, you'll die... why are you doing this?
Groot: WE are Groot.

Drax the Destroyer: I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you've accepted me despite my blunders. It is good to once again be among friends.
